Movement Principles Introduction to movement education 16 Hours

The Movement Principles provides a solid foundation for training in all training environments and with any equipment. You will come away with a complete toolbox for effectively training clients to recover from injuries, improve their general fitness and enhance their performance.

Mat 1 forms the foundation of the Pilates method. This course includes an introduction to the history and principles of the Pilates method and the beginning and intermediate level exercises. Each exercise includes training on modifications, challenges, the purpose of the exercise and any precautions for injuries and special populations. H

Yes, only if you are looking to gain full certification from Balanced Body then you will need to complete all 3 modules of either Mat or Reformer, plus the Movement Principles course. However, if you are only looking to increase your knowledge and learning about Reformer or Mat Pilates and you don’t plan to teach as a Qualified instructor, then you can stop after any module. 


You do not need any previous pilates experience to start the course, but it is highly recommended that you gain some insight by attending any Pilates sessions that you can. If you have no previous training in Pilates or no medical background, then it is essential that you complete an Anatomy training course (provided online with BB) or can show evidence of training with another provider (minimum hours requirement).


To become a fully qualified Balanced Body Reformer teacher, students must complete the following:

  • Movement Principles (16 hours)
  • Balanced Body Reformer 1 – Course work and test (16 hours)
  • Balanced Body Reformer 2 – Course work and test (16 hours)
  • Balanced Body Reformer 3 – Course work and test (16 hours)
  • Anatomy, either Balanced Body Anatomy course or comparable from another institution, must be completed prior to testing out
  • 30 Reformer personal sessions, 30 observation hours and 90 student teaching hours
  • Final written and practical test (there is an additional fee for this)
  • Total hours for completion of Reformer program: 214 hours
    (not including anatomy).
  • Upon fulfilment of all Balanced Body Reformer Teacher requirements, students will receive a certificate of completion
